いくつか米国の研究機関等から生の英語の抜粋で 現在の歯科治療等についていくつかみてみよう。 なお訳語については要約だけにした。 最初の3文はNIHからの読み物[TOOTH DECAY]から抜粋一部修正。 ■50年前は・・・・ The combination of tooth decay and periodontal diseases left 17 million people age 45 and older ・about three out of 10 Americans ■虫歯予防や歯科治療が進んだ現在・・・ It is estimated that from 1979 through 1989 alone, the American public saved more than billion in dental expenditures due to the power of prevention. Since the 1950s, the ■未来はどうなるか・・・ powerful imaging tools that can detect the earliest demineralization of tooth enamel. Advances in DNA sequencing of the bacteria that cause tooth decay. it may be possible in the future to directly target these genes and inactivate the ability of these bacteria to cause decay. ●子供の詰め物においてPLASTICかMETAL、 その耐久と現状について。 Plastic fillings in the back teeth are less likely to wear down if they are small and not subject to heavy biting and chewing forces. These materials continue to improve. ●toothのつく遺伝的病気にCharcot-Marie-Tooth Diseaseというものがあるがいったいどういうもの？ Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is one of the most common inherited neurological disorders, affecting approximately 1 in 2,500 people in the United States.Affected peripheral nerves lie outside the brain and spinal cord and supply the muscles and sensory organs in the limbs.A typical feature includes weakness of the foot and lower leg muscles,which may result in foot drop and a high-stepped gait with frequenttripping or falls. Foot deformities, such as high arches and hammertoes. |

歯のある面白い小説[3 from out there] |

1950年代に出版された古いが面白い小説がある。 3 from out there と言う小説 その中からDamon Knightさんの書かれたDOUBLE MEANINGという短篇は面白い。 次のような文章から始まり興味をそそぐ。 Somewhere in the city, a monster was hiding... Double Meaningは約７０ぺーじの短いものだが英語もそこまで難しくないので面白いと思う。 そこから一部わたしのお気に入りのフレーズと歯のある文章。 ◎If like measures produice like ends, then that's the way it will be, whether you like it or not but history never repeats itself,... ◎But that was precisely the kind of world that Pembun came from, whether he was human or Rithian; that was the unchanging essence of the ancient Unreason , beaten now on Earth but not yet stamped out of the Cosmos.That was the enemy.... ☆ his head was supported by hollow(空洞) in the bolster(長枕); a rigid harness(機具) covered his neck. his mouth was slightly open under the coarse(粗い) black mustachios, and a curved suction tube was hooked over his lower teeth.... ◎with the expression that almost never altered: direct, gravely intent, receptive. her skin and eyes were so clear, her emotional responses so deliberate and pallid, that she seemd utterly , almost abstractly normal: a type personified, a symbol, a mathematical fiction.... damon knightさんの作品は本当に面白い。 |

歯のある円周率の覚え方 |

円周率は世界中の数学愛好家だけでなく多くの人を魅了しました。 覚え方も人それぞれにあって国によってもいろいろとあるようです。 日本にも歯に関係のある面白い覚え方を作った人がいた。 参考文献は数学文化という本の日本評論者からでてる2003年の記事がら見つけたものです。 その方法は、円周率の5万桁分を10桁単位に分割しておぼえるもの。 たとえば46180桁代8182446584は番地を 4618（白い歯）として81824（歯医抜歯）46584(汁粉パス)という風に覚えるというもの。 現実に挑戦した人々は永遠とこのような独自の言葉、リズムというものを作っていったんでしょう。歯を食いしばりながら覚えたり作ったりして世界新記録に挑戦していたのだと思います。 |
